Museum “Konak”, Vidin

Konak is a monument of culture with local significance. It is located in the central part of the town – town Vidin, 2 “Obstinska” street. Park area for rest is arranged in front of it. The building was built in the second half of 17th century. Initially, the Turks used it for a police station, and in the 70s of the 20th century were provided to the Bulgarian church community. After the Liberation, it was given on a disposal of Vidin Municipality. The building has two floors, but due to the many changes it has not quite preserved elements of its original appearance. Since 1956 it was converted into a museum, which traces the history of Vidin and region of Vidin from antiquity until the Liberation.

The building was substantially modified in the process of its historical development. Originally it was probably of one-storey with passages in the two directions intersecting at right angle at the center. In the central part was risen the tower-shaped room - fire watchtower guards. After the Liberation it was transformed, as there were inserted elements of Bulgarian National Revival architecture. In 1956 the building became a museum. Today, there are exposed the exhibits of the Regional Historical Museum in Vidin of archeology and history of Bulgaria 15th – 19th century.
