These 57 buildings are announced as architectural monuments of culture in the Municipality of Lom. The buildings are constructed in the period 1880 to 1940. They are projected by Austrian, Belgian, German and Hungarian architects in "later art noveau" and "pseudo-baroque" styles. These houses were owned by big trade families, who managed shops, storage and trade houses. They had their own offices in Wien, Bucharest, Galatz, Braila, Petersburg, Odessa and Manchester. These are the famous families – Milanezi, Staykovi, Andreevi, Tsenko Todorovi, Tsonzarovi, Tabakovi, Poptodorovi, Kusidis, Bechevi etc. When building these beautiful and stylish houses, they used furniture from Wien, beautiful things for Pest and Galatz. They imposed the fine style in both exterior and interior of their homes. Many famous persons in the sphere of science, music and literature have been raised and educated here, who presently live and work in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Swiss, Italy.
