Kaleto in Berkovitsa

Kaleto (the Fortress) in Berkovitsa is a monument of culture with historical importance. Archaeologists in Bulgaria began the excavation of this place in 1961. Due to their work were revealed the external and internal walls of late antiquity with separate spaces between them. In the outer wall there are two basilicas. In the south-eastern slope of the Kaleto in Berkovitza are revealed traces of located here Thracian settlement. After it during the Roman era there is life here, associated with ore mining and processing of gold. Activities of fortification of Kaleto (the fortress) and thus rebuilding it from village into the fortification facility happened in 4th -5th century. Archaeologists found here also columns, capitals, ceramics, bricks, tools, weapons, coins. All these of course are arranged in museum exhibition.
