The University of Craiova

The University of Craiova was established within the system of university centers in Romania during the second half of the 20th century, in chronological order, it is the fifth university in the country, after those in Iasi, Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca and Timisoara. The efforts to be established a university center in the heart of the region of Oltenia were completed with the adoption of the Law №. 138/april 25, 1947 which allows the creation and organization of the University of Craiova. Today the university is housed in the building of the former Palace of Justice, which was designed in 1890 by Ion Socolescu and is an illustration of neoclassicism in architecture.
