Climate and water

The climate is temperate continental, with higher temperatures and lower rainfall. Thanks to its southwest location and its natural protection of the hills by the north, the summers are hot and the winters are with moderate temperatures.

The hydrographic network of the district is represented by the Danube River, running between the villages Cetate and Dabuleni, Jiu river, which crosses the county from Filias to Zaval, lakes and canals (Bistrets, Fantana, Banului, Maglavit, Ciupercheni etc.).
