Traditional celebrations and festivalsTraditional celebrations and festivals: Feast of peony - Plenita, May Festival of Acacia - Desa, May Festival of lime - Carpen National Festival - Competition for Romanian folk song "Maria Tanase" (Craiova, May) Fair of Traditional Crafts (Craiova, Dolj district, October): Originally the crafts fair was part of the Festival "Maria Tanase", later was part of the celebrations of the "Days of Craiova", the Turnu Severin festivals and Caracal, its organizers were various cultural and public institutions. In recent years the crafts fair is held within the celebrations of the "Days of Craiova" annually at the end of October. For the crafts fair in Craiova arrive craftsmen from all corners of Romania. The main organizer of the fair is the Ethnographic Museum in Craiova.

The festival guests are greeted with sheep jerky, smoked sausage, hominy with cheese, stuffed cabbage, beans, dried fish, sausages, several types of banitsa, including banitsa with leeks, pickled vegetables, sweets and more. The culmination of the festival is associated with the wine tasting and the "Best wine" competition. Wine Festival, Bechet, Dolj district. Usually it takes place during the weekly fair in Beckett. The festival enchants with its culinary delights. The feast begins with a symbolic parade, the convoy and the chariot are decorated with flowers, grapes, melons, corn cobs, as in the "chariot" a must-appear is a cask of wine. After the parade there is fun and games until late at night. Folklore Festival "Maria Tanase". Every two years in May, in the National Theatre "Marin Sorescu", Craiova is held Folk Festival, named after the most loved Romanian folk singer Maria Tanase or The Enchantress. The singer was born in 1913 in the suburbs of Bucharest. Her parents were fans of folk music and little Maria falls in love with it as a child. She became popular after her radio debut in 1938, but soon after she fell into disfavor because she was playing chess naked! On stage at the festival Maria Tanase emulate young and established folk artists from all over Romania. The program ends every evening with some of the best musicians. The festival is accompanied by exhibitions, workshops, conferences and exhibitions of traditional crafts. In 2011 is held its 21th edition. |
